Food Not Bombs was founded in Boston in 1980 on a very simple principle: no one should go hungry in a country where 96 billion pounds of food–nearly 200 pounds per person–is thrown away each year. All the food served by Food Not Bombs would otherwise have been wasted–in Greensboro we get bruised produce from Deep Roots, leftover baked potatoes from Outback Steakhouse, day-old bread from Panera. With those donations and whatever other food we can salvage, we serve anywhere from 45 to 90 people a week.
